When Kate and Jared drove across country to Tahoe, they stopped at our house in northern Kentucky. In the morning, when I came down, Jared was getting acquainted with our golden retriever, Dutch, who is a very free spirit of his own. Like with a cartoon character, you are always waiting for the next mischievous act that this dog is going to pull off. Whether it be digging up flowers you just planted or coming into the house covered in mud, he, like Jared, never seemed to lose his puppyhood as you will. As he aged, that never tempered. And so when I came down to find Jared with the dog chew toy in his mouth and the dog pulling ferociously on the other end, as you might see in this picture here, it was to no one's surprise.
